Hi!When I open a JPG file in Explorer with the default viewer 'Photos app', it allows to navigate to the next/previous photo by swiping sideways (on a touch screen), or by clicking on little arrow buttons on the left/right of the image. However, when I open the exact same JPG file from my own program, it only opens that file and does NOT allow to switch through multiple images! I tried the following methods:1.
ShellExecuteEx (native code)2. IContextMenu-InvokeCommand (native code, OLE2)3. Opened cmd.exe via start menu, pasted file name+ENTER (Windows shell). #4 was testing from a Metro app, just to check whether the problem is with desktop apps only, or also with metro apps. But the Windows 10 photo viewer misbehaves even when launched from a Metro app. There was indeed no problem on Windows 8 and 7.So is this a general bug of the Photos app, or is there a way to open it correctly? I tried another method: Notepad, File - Open, show all files, right click on JPG, 'Open' - and it opened correctly with the next/previous buttons in the Photosapp!
Win 7 64 ultimate black edition free download. Maybe it's because the file open dialog is like a small version of ExplorerAnyway, there has to be a way to open the Photo viewer correctly, since the Explorer can do it. This isn't something that explorer does. If you take a look at the file access log, explorer does not scan the whole folder and pass you everything. It is your job to scan the folder if that is what you need1 strip off the file name from the path that is passed to you in the command line2 enumerate the result folder to generate a play list of files3 set the current position of the list to your file4 when the user tries to go to the previous or next file, open the previous or next file from the list. This won't work for files that is streamed to your program and does not have a path (e.g. A photo in a zip file).
Hi Jan,Thanks for the suggestion, but I have tried that already - with and without trailing backslash - but it didn't help. The Photo app still doesn't pick up the images in that directory, only the one passed directly via command line.Hi Henri Hein,No, I haven't tried IApplicationActivationManager yet. It requires an appUserModelId as a parameter, which isn't easy to get from a file extension. But the member function ActivateForFile does indeed accept a list of file names, so the Explorer might beusing that. I just wonder how the Explorer decides to pass more than one file name to an app, when the user has only selected one file. Application model IDs don't seem that hard to get, it's just a couple of lookups in the registry, but yes, compared to just firing a ShellExecute, it's definitely more work.
Although I have to admit, if you find the 'shell' areaunder the application IDs confusing, you are not the only one. While you are figuring this out, is it a useful workaround for your users to switch to the classic photo viewer? Honestly, it is my personal preference anyway, at least until I get more familiar with the new Photo Manager. As I mentionedabove, the steps to switch are pretty easy.
